designboom Celebrates 20th Anniversary With "Retro" Video Series
The world’s first online architecture and design magazine.
designboom is celebrating its 20th anniversary with “Treasures on Tape,” a series of videos that were filmed during the magazine’s first years online. Since its beginnings in 1999, designboom has been able to interview prominent architects and designers; to mark 20 years of designboom, these “retro” videos are now being released.
During a time when people were coming to terms with a technological future — think back to when Google first went live in 1998 — designboom was able to create its presence as the first digital magazine for architecture, art and technology. “Treasures on Tape” used a Japanese, mini-DVD technique to capture creative visionaries reflecting on contemporary society, the evolution of their work and what they believed the future held. From the designboom archives comes videos of Achille Castiglioni and Milton Glaser from 2000.
designboom’s third video will showcase Ettore Sottsass, legendary Italian architect, designer and founder of the Memphis Group. For more than six decades, he worked on projects including furniture, lighting, jewelry and home decor, along with architectural drawings and interiors.
The third video on Ettore Sottsass will be available to view today on 20 years of designboom. Expect more videos to release on the site, featuring Dieter Rams, Enzo Mari and Vico Magistretti.
Elsewhere, Studio Viktor Sørless created a render of its latest architectural project, the “Dune House.”
