'Pokémon Sword' and 'Shield' Trailer Reveal New Ability & Item Details
Abilities and items will play a huge role in battles.
A new trailer for Pokémon: Sword and Shield showcases how abilities and item will come more into play during battles in this generation game.
Many new abilities were showcased, but the most talked about is Galarian Weezing’s Neutralizing Gas. It is able to neutralize the ongoing effects of other Pokémon’s Abilities and even prevent Abilities from being triggered. This allows for a litany of strategies that can either remove an enemy’s Abilities or possibly stop your own Pokémon’s Ability if it serves as a hinderance, such as Slaking’s Truant Ability if he’s in the game.
There is also a chance to capture Pokémon in Max Raid Battles with newly introduced Hidden Abilities. Examples of Hidden Abilities include Corviknight’s Mirror Armor, which will bounce back any stat-lowering effects from an opposing Pokémon’s Abilities or moves.
New items, such as Room Service and Eject Pack play major roles in battles, since one can lower Speed while the move Trick Room is in use, and the other can switch out your Pokémon entirely if its stats are effected.
