From the visionary filmmaker and screenwriter behind 2015’s The Witch, Robert Eggers‘ sophomore effort The Lighthouse has dropped its first trailer today.

Shared via A24, the psychodrama stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson as two lighthouse keepers who are living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s. The period piece soon begins to delve deeper into the hallucinations and unexplainable events that the pair are experiencing. The teaser for the black-and-white film gives viewers a cryptic look at what’s to come, interjecting shots of Pattinson fighting an octopus and killing seagulls.

The Lighthouse made its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival a few months back to positive reviews.

Check out the first trailer for The Lighthouse above, which looks to solidify Eggers as one of today’s most exciting directors. The film arrives October 18.

In related A24 news, Ari Aster’s MIDSOMMAR director’s cut is set to debut this August.
