Phaidon Releases New Book Covering 100 Global Textile Artists
‘Vitamin T’ celebrates how the boundaries between art and craft have blurred.

Premier creative arts publisher Phaidon has just released its latest tome on textile artists. Vitamin T: Threads and Textiles in Contemporary Art is one of various surveys making up the Vitamin series — including titles like Vitamin D: New Perspectives in Drawing and Vitamin C: Clay and Ceramic in Contemporary Art — that showcases the work of 100 different contemporary textile artists around the globe.
The book covers all forms of textile art, spanning across tapestry, embroidery, stitching, textiles, knitting, and knotting. It features craftsmen from El Anatsui, Sarah Lucas to Do Ho Suh, each having his or her own short profile essay written by a critic, curator, or art historian, as well as a two to four-page spread displaying their work. The biographies are accompanied by an introductory history penned by Jenelle Porter, a former curator at the ICA Boston and ICA Philadelphia, which discusses the rise in the use of textiles in contemporary art.
For textile or modern art enthusiasts, Phaidon’s 304-page Vitamin T: Threads and Textiles in Contemporary Art is now available over at the publisher’s website, retailing for £49.95 GBP, or roughly $63 USD.
Elsewhere in art, Moniker recently launched its summer exhibition in Leeds, UK, displaying new original artworks from globally-renowned street artists.
