'His Dark Materials' Sees James McAvoy Battling the Mystical Elements
Watch the full-length trailer debuted during Comic-Con.
After receiving a teaser back in May, HBO and BBC have now shared the first full-length trailer for the upcoming fantasy series His Dark Materials during the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con.
Based off of the bestselling novels by Philip Pullman, His Dark Materials will mark the latest adapted fantasy series to join the streaming giant. And now that Game of Thrones has come to an end, HBO is hoping the series will drawn new viewers and keep old ones.
In the just shy of three-minute clip, James McAvoy is gearing up for war against the mystical elements. The series (just like the books) are set in an alternate world where one’s soul manifests as a shape-shifting animal called a Daemon. Centering around a young girl named Lyra Belacqua (played by Logan star Dafne Keen), the series will follow her as she travels to the Arctic to find her friend Roger who has been kidnapped and experimented on. Season one of His Dark Materials is adapted from the first installment of Pullman’s trilogy, The Golden Compass.
His Dark Materials will also star Lin-Manuel Miranda, Anne-Marie Duff, Clarke Peters, Ariyon Bakare, Will Keen, Ian Gelder, Georgina Campbell, Lewin Lloyd, Lucian Msamati, James Cosmo, Daniel Frogson, Tyler Howitt, Ruta Gedmintas, and Mat Fraser.
Co-produced by BBC and HBO, His Dark Materials will air sometime this fall. Stay tuned for an official release date.
James McAvoy will also be starring in this summer’s IT: Chapter 2. Check out the new IT: Chapter 2 trailer where Pennywise torments the grown up Losers Club.
