Four Tet Debuts His Second Major Single of 2019, "Dreamer"
A new album is definitely on the way.
At the beginning of this month, Four Tet released his first music video in 14 years, deciding to serve up a visual for his first new track of 2019, “Teenage Birdsong.” Created by director Joanna Nordahl, the “Dreamer” clip featured Super 16mm film footage from Four Tet’s recent Alexandra Palace performances, which featured a 40,000-light installation put together by the visual artist collective Squidsoup. Now, another new Four Tet single has emerged, providing listeners with a decidedly different side of Four Tet’s artistry and sonic skillset.
“I’m deep in work on a new album at the moment,” Four Tet revealed to Beats 1’s Matt Wilkinson a couple months ago, opening up for a rare interview. “The first single’s just come out, a bit unusual for me, I’ve started releasing music before the album’s finished. But the album’s not far from being done, I think it’ll come out this year.”
“Teenage Birdsong” currently serves as the upcoming Four Tet album’s lead single, but “Dreamer” has been released without any accompanying statements.
Besides a single interview for Apple Music’s Beats 1 outlet, Four Tet has also taken to social media to tease more new music and his next major studio project. “Working on the new record. Got some tracks finished now,” Four Tet tweeted on March 21 of this year.
You can check out Four Tet’s latest single, “Dreamer,” above. Although Four Tet’s last full-length studio project was 2017’s New Energy, and these new releases are a sign of much more new music to come in the near future.
Earlier this year, Kieran Hebden, the multi-talented musician behind Four Tet, released the “Only Human” single under his KH moniker.
