Zion Williamson Drafted No. 1 by the Pelicans

The 2019 NBA Draft took place last night at the Barclay’s Center, which saw Commissioner Adam Silver announcing the fate of 60 young talented players. Unsurprisingly Zion Williamson, who is considered one of the most exciting prospects in years, was the No. 1 overall pick and was chosen by the New Orleans Pelicans.

Williamson only played one season at Duke where the 6-foot-7, 285-pounder averaged 22.6 points and 8.9 rebounds while shooting 68% from the field. He also accumulated numerous accolades during his short time playing for the school and led Duke to the Elite Eight at the NCAA tournament.

Sporting a white suit, Williamson thanked his mom after being called up by Silver. “I don’t know what to say. I didn’t think I’d be in this position. My mom sacrificed a lot for me. I wouldn’t be here without my mom,” he told the crowd.

Murray State point guard Ja Morant was the No. 2 pick chosen by the Memphis Grizzlies. “It means a lot,” Morant said. “Obviously it means that Memphis sees a lot in me. I’m grateful and thankful to them for drafting me. I’m very excited to play in Memphis.”

Rounding out the top three is Duke freshman R.J. Barrett who was picked third by the New York Knicks. Longtime Knicks supporter director Spike Lee cheered from the crowd after Barrett’s named was announced.
