Byredo Showcases Basketball Sneaker at BYPRODUCT Vol. 1 SS20 Show
Also delivering a host of suits, hats and bags.

Byredo has presented its all-new BYPRODUCT Vol. 1 concept for Spring/Summer 2020 in a basketball court in Paris, showcasing the brand’s first-ever pair of sneakers alongside a collection of apparel and accessories.
The Paris Fashion Week Men’s SS20 presentation was a nod to the NBA and saw the creative director Ben Gorham replicating the NBA Draft. The idea is to illustrate the moment when a dream becomes reality, channeling Gorham’s seven-year-old self who aspired to be a basketball star.
The sneakers are a first for the multifaceted label, and were produced in collaboration with Helen Kirkum. The pair pays homage to the first basketball sneaker designed over 100 years ago and utilizes a shape which protects the ankle while maintaining streamlined. Each pair is made from leftover leather from the BYPRODUCT bags, creating a patchworked effect which is emphasized by zigzag stitching and topstitched panels. Every sneaker will be one-of-a-kind and will see a unique mix of suede and leather which could feature everything from fragments of typography left by leather classification stamps to varying levels of black and neutral skins.
BYPRODUCT by Byredo also presents a selection of men’s suits, bags and hats. The entire collection is inspired by NBA star of the early 2000s, so key looks are oversized and have a touch of 1940s New York gangster mixed with ’80s Wall Street broker.
Suits were made in collaboration with the Stockholm-based bespoke tailor A.W.Bauer & Co., which was founded in 1863. Ten boxy 5-button suits are delivered in a palette of greys, beige, blue and white, each featuring designs such as elongated blazers, pronounced shoulders and wide long leg trousers. The collection references the zoot-suits era in the USA and traditional Italian tailoring. Gorham’s suits were designed with basketball players in mind, so each piece accommodates those with extra height.
