Black Pumas' Eponymous Debut Album Is Filled With Psychedelic Soul
Transporting the Motown Era to the present.
Austin-based psychedelic soul duo Black Pumas, made up of singer Eric Burton and Grammy-nominated producer Adriana Quesada, has retained a unique blend of soul and funk alongside sprinkles of jazz, blues, hip-hop, and more. Now the two have brought forth their eponymously named debut studio album, offering up 10-tracks filled with raspy-tinged vocals and ‘70s-esque instrumentation.
Throughout the project, Burton’s songwriting and throaty vocals effortlessly blend with Quesada’s immense instrumentation and production. It’s hard to position the duo as anything but a modern interpretation of the Motown Era, meticulously showcasing a sound both rich with history and filled with ingenuity. Alongside the album, the two also dropped a darkly psychedelic video for the album’s lead single, “Black Moon Rising.”
