Latest 'Swamp Thing' Trailer Offers First Look at Mutated Antihero in Action
An appropriately thrilling clip.
Following a brief sneak peek, DC has granted a full trailer for the forthcoming Swamp Thing. Based upon the character’s development by Alan Moore, the trailer takes Moore’s monstrous motifs a step further.
Unlike past DC TV shows, which range in mood from lighthearted to action-oriented, Swamp Thing appears to channel the horror pedigree of producer James Wan. The trailer is packed with stark lighting, jarring angles and even a few jump scares, with gruesome main character content to lurk in the shadows until the very end of the clip. DC’s official synopsis hints at the series’ mercurial plot:
Swamp Thing centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed). When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland (Andy Bean) — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
Check out the full-length trailer above and watch Swamp Thing premiere May 31, exclusively on the DC Universe.
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that the rebooted Batman franchise may already have a slate of villains.
