Billionaire Robert F. Smith Pays off Student Loans for 400 College Graduates
Roughly $40 million USD.
This year’s Morehouse College seniors may have just received the best gift in their lives. Billionaire investor Robert F. Smith rocked up to the historically black college recently to give his commencement speech, during which he announced that he would pay off all of the graduating class’ student loan debts.
“On behalf of the eight generations of my family who have been in this country, we’re going to put a little fuel in your bus,” Smith says. “This is my class — 2019 — and my family is making a grant to eliminate their student loans.” Upon hearing this, the crowd cheered in a standing ovation, calling Smith the “MVP.”
Smith then continues: “I want my class to look at these (alumni) — these beautiful Morehouse brothers — and let’s make sure every class has the same opportunity going forward because we are enough to take care of our own community. We are enough to ensure we have all the opportunities of the American dream.”
Smith will be paying off the student loans for a total of 396 students, which accumulate to roughly $40 million USD.
For more news, there are now over one million fans who have signed the petition for HBO to remake season eight of Game of Thrones.
@RFS_Vista May have broken the Internet with his generosity and charge to pay it forward. https://t.co/6dsfw2kToi
