Lloyd Is Happy to See Young R&B Artists Getting Their Shine
He also talks about longevity and R&B’s influence in music.
For the latest entry in our Conversations With interview series, HYPEBEAST linked up with Lloyd to talk about R&B in 2019, competitiveness in the music industry, and how one acquires longevity in the industry.
For over a decade, Lloyd has been a mainstay in R&B, starting with his stellar debut album Southside in 2004 and, most recently, Tru LP, his newest project that was released in 2018. Throughout his career, Lloyd has stayed consistent and within the public eye by focusing on his craft and making music that he feels inspired by.
“I don’t make music for money, I don’t make music for clout,” Lloyd said to HYPEBEAST. He continues, “Make [music] because you’re inspired by it because that’s what represent you and because you appreciate the power of the vocabulary, and expression.”
Tru LP is an 11-track record that features guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Sevyn Streeter, Khujo Goodie, Curren$y, The Spelman Women’s Choir and Lloyd’s infant son, River. Watch the video interview above.
