Gabe Nandez Shares New Video for Debut Album's Lead Single, "Escondido"
The ‘Diplomacy’ track is brought to life by Losmose.
Introducing his debut studio album Diplomacy, Gabe Nandez is premiering a new visual for the project’s lead single, “Escondido.” Notably, the “Escondido” vignette was put together by Nandez’s close collaborator and friend Losmose; the record’s narrative revolves around its creator struggling to overcome his own demons, and its video component is billed as a visualization of “what that war might look like in alternate dimensions.”
“My life served as the main inspiration for this album, which marks a monumental growth in me as a person,” Gabe Nandez tells, sharing some insight into Diplomacy’s back-story and explaining the project’s primary inspirations. “Diplomacy is a concept I’ve had in mind for years now. The title is inspired by my father’s line of work as a diplomat for the United Nations, and the different countries my family and I ended up living in due to this path. I thematically re-interpret my nomadic upbringing on this record, and draw from my South American and West African roots as well. “
“My relocation to New York from Montreal, coupled with sobriety and the radical lifestyle change that accompanies it, led to the final version of Diplomacy,” Nandez adds, recalling the real-life invents that inspired his debut LP’s creative direction. “I worked on a few versions of it before linking up with Tony Seltzer in 2018, who ended co-producing the record with me. We sampled my guitar playing on this song. ”
