Oi Polloi Looks to the Archives for Sebago Deck Shoe Collaboration

Heritage shoemaker Sebago and Machester-by-London stalwart Oi Polloi have teamed up for the release of a hybrid deck shoe for Spring/Summer 2019. Coined the Portland, Oi Polloi has fused two of its favorite yacht-approved silhouettes from Sebago’s archives — the Dockside and the Schooner — and has released its collaborative pair in two luxurious colorways.
Inspired by a legacy which harks back to 1948, the Portland sees a combination of premium leather and nubuck which is inspired by deadstock Sebago shoes that Oi Polloi found whilst looking for unique boat shoes. The mixed uppers from the Docksides sit atop the streamlined sole from the Schooner, slimming down the shoe’s profile for a relaxed, off-duty approach to formal marina-ready footwear.
Speaking on the capsule collection, Oi Polloi co-founder Steve Sanderson said, “Sebago is one of the boat shoe originators, but although they’ve obviously got that classic American lineage, we thought it’d be interesting to look at their shoes from a different angle – taking cues from the kind of deck-shoes worn by the Paninari in Milan in the mid-80s.”
