Cuco Heads to Mexico City for New "Hydrocodone" Video
“‘Hydrocodone’ is a music video dedicated to the memory of our past and future selves.”
A few weeks after sharing a new single titled “Hydrocodone” and announcing a 2019 North American tour, Cuco is back with the official “Hydrocodone” music video — which director Jazmin Garcia filmed in Mexico City.
“‘Hydrocodone’ is a music video dedicated to the memory of our past and future selves,” reads an official statement from “Hydrocodone” director Jazmin Garcia. “It’s an abstract journey through a young man’s memories before and after a big accident. I’m constantly thinking about death and the way we honor it, so I wanted to depict a funeral scene where people are celebrating the passing of a different version of ourselves. Cuco is celebrating and leading this funeral procession because he is more alive than ever.”
“I started writing this song two years ago and I didn’t finish it but by until late last year after we had our accident. I called it ‘Hydrocodone’ because I was finishing up writing this song in my hotel room and I was on hydrocodone because of my foot injury,” Cuco explained to Zane Lowe at the beginning of this month, revealing the origins of “Hydrocodone.” “I recorded the verse on the Apple headphones and that’s just kind of what was the final version.”
“I’m super excited to be back releasing my own music with this single ‘Hydrocodone,’ the first one from my debut album,” Cuco added in a separate press statement. “Ecstatic to put this song out after two years of working on it, having finished it on my Apple headphones in the hotel room off Hydrocodone post surgery recovering from our accident. Hope you enjoy it.”
