Take a Look Inside Snøhetta's Underwater Restaurant in Norway
Doubling up as a marine research center.
Architectural studio Snøhetta gave a first look at its underwater restaurant back in 2017; now, the company delivers a full look at the completed space. Fittingly named “Under” — which also means “wonder” in Norwegian — the eatery is Europe’s first underwater restaurant, appearing as a long concrete structure emerging from the Norwegian Sea.
Upon arrival, guests are ushered to the champagne bar situated at the transition between shoreline and ocean. Under this is a dining room that seats up to 40 people, with a huge window offering views of the seabed while you eat. Take a look around the space in the gallery above.
As well as offering a unique place to eat, Under encourages marine research; due to its location in Southern Norway — where various marine species flourish — the restaurant will also work as a research center out of hours.
