nanamica Focuses on Form & Function With SS19 Collection

Following on from its versatile Fall/Winter 2018 collection, Japanese label nanamica has officially unveiled its Spring/Summer 2019 line-up. The theme for this season’s collection is “NANATORA Alternative Dressing,” described as a reworking of traditional ideas of hybrid technical and functional clothing.

For Spring/Summer 2019, nanamica has worked with a traditional marine tricolor, with navy acting as the focal point. The navy, along with other shades of blue in gradient effect, is a reference to the sea’s influence on the collection. Other colors include natural white to beige — a reference to sandy beaches — and bright red as a nod to seaside flags.

This season features three major themes, including an array of technical coats designed for the transitional Spring weather. The second theme — described as the “All-Mighty Setup Suit” — mixes traditional tailoring with technical materials including GORE-TEX and ALPHADRY. For the collection’s third main theme, nanamica has focused on bold color blocked items.

This collection also features the introduction of a new subline called nanamican Graffiti, which fuses graphic design with sportswear. These pieces are designed to be functional athletic wear, while also working alongside nanamica’s mainline collection.
