'The Grudge' Reboot Red Band Trailer Gets Extra Gory
The franchise’s first theatrical R-rating.
The red band trailer for Sam Raimi and director Nicolas Pesce‘s upcoming The Grudge reboot has surfaced, showcasing gore, violence, and the franchise’s first theatrical R-rating. In the footage above, we see actress Linda Shaye from the Insidious films creepily approach a police officer (Andrea Riseborough) before her decomposing husband is discovered.
Previous installments of the American adaptation of The Grudge were rated PG-13. Another change in this movie is relocating the film’s story from Japan to the United States. According to the director, “The beauty of The Grudge franchise, both the American and Japanese iterations, is it’s an anthology series. Every movie is a different story of different characters having different interactions with this curse.” Pesce continues by saying “In today’s age where we’re remaking everything, I thought it would be fun to dive into The Grudge universe where we don’t have to remake anything, but rather a new chapter in this canon.”
