Full-Length 'Mulan' Trailer Introduces the Film's All-New Villain
Along with new looks at Donnie Yen and Jet Li.
After giving fans a first look last year and dropping a teaser trailer earlier this summer, Disney has now shared the first full-length trailer for its forthcoming live-action Mulan revamp.
The highly-anticipated film directed by Niki Caro (2002’s Whale Rider) will closely follow the same plot line of 1998’s animated version, which was based on the famous Chinese folktale of Hua Mulan. American-Chinese actress, model and singer Yifei Liu will star as the eponymous character, who sets off to join the men-only Imperial Army to help China fight against northern invaders. During her epic journey, Mulan earns the respect of her fellow warriors, her ailing father and the whole nation.
In the new trailer posted above, viewers are introduced to the film’s brand-new villain, a powerful witch named Xianniang played by Gong Li.
On the film Disney stated, “The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.”
Along with Yifei Liu and Gong Li, Mulan stars Jet Li as the emperor of China, Donnie Yen will be Mulan’s mentor, Commander Tung, and Yoson An will play Mulan’s love interest, Chen Honghui. The film will also star Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ron Yuan, Tzi Ma, Rosalind Chao, Cheng Pei-Pei, Nelson Lee, and Chum Ehelepola.
Disney‘s Mulan is slated to hit theaters March 27, 2020.
