Bronx native Lil TJay is the latest artist to stop by the HYPEBEAST office for a personal Conversations With interview. The 18-year old rapper discusses his ear for melody, stating his process begins with instrumentals before he actually creates lyrics. He then talks about his wide array of influences, which range from Michael Jackson to Biggie Smalls, as well as Chris Brown.

Recently being incarcerated, the artist delves more about how the time taught him to love himself and see from a perspective beyond his upbringing in New York. “I just learned what’s right from wrong, I learned more about life as an overall,” Lil TJay said. “Cause I kind of was like just trapped into the Bronx, like growing up, and I didn’t know too much outside of that.”

You can check out our Conversations With interview with Lil TJay above.
