Our Legacy Looks to True Crime & Criminology for Pre-Fall 2020
Mixing references to left-behind evidence and forensic science.
Following on from its “Joyous Reunion” collection for Spring 2020, Swedish label Our Legacy is back with its Pre-Fall 2020 collection. For this season, the brand has taken inspiration from criminology, with the process of designing the collection beginning while the team watched a late night true crime show.
Referencing this influence, materials and methods have been taken from forensic science, while other motifs are themed around the idea of “left behind evidence and traces.” This design is apparent in T-shirts featuring partially obscured newspaper text and faded patterns on sleeveless shirts. Elsewhere, Our Legacy delivers silhouettes inspired by lab coats, alongside stained denim items and pieces bearing juxtaposed typefaces.
Speaking about the Pre-Fall 2020 collection, creative director Christopher Nying explained that “the key pieces can be studied from an almost criminological sense,” going on to add that Our Legacy is “balancing the contrasts in details between recurring surgical cuts and raw hems, transparent synthetics and leather.”
