The Finnish furniture brand and Our Legacy WORK SHOP have taken the iconic Alvar Aalto-designed stool — which has previously been reinterpreted by the likes of Barbara Kruger, Karhu and more — and given it various updates including a dotwork Yin and Yang design.
Other designs include three abstract artworks by Our Legacy’s in-house artist Hank Grüner, as well as an homage design on a clear Stool 60, and three designs by the creative director Cristopher Nying. In addition to the collection of stools, the collaboration will bring a pair of Our Legacy short and long-sleeve T-shirts, as well as a hoodie, featuring Artek branding and artwork in association with the collection.
Speaking on the collection in a press release, founder of Our Legacy Jockum Hallin said, “For our first collaborative work with Artek in a series to come, we have taken inspiration from our youth, school years and time spent in public spaces. Elements such as carvings on the school benchtop, flyers and pins from the note board, woodwork burning and graffiti tags on the public bathroom wall decorates a number of Artek Stool 60 Ystävä, applied in our signature multi-technique layering.”
The conceptual work will be presented at DOVER STREET MARKET GINZA on October 19 in Tokyo. Those who purchase a stool will be able to have it customized by the Our Legacy WORK SHOP in the store, during the presentation featuring Nying, Grüner and Hallin.
