'The Mandalorian' TV Spot Reveals First Look at Assassin Fennec Shand
Portrayed by ‘Mulan’ voice actress Ming-Na Wen.
The newest ad for the live-action Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian has given fans a first look at a new character — an assassin named Fennec Shand.
Portrayed by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Mulan voice actress Ming-Na Wen, Shand crosses paths with Pedro Pascal’s titular bounty hunter in the middle of the first season. While the short visual only sees her dropping one line (“Your name will be legendary.”), the assassin looks to be a one-woman show whose loyalties only lie with herself.
“We got our inspiration really from the name. The idea of a fennec fox came to mind,” Wen explained in a recent interview. “She’s tricky, and yet she’s able to maneuver and survive, and be stealthy—so very graceful and agile. I just love that whole image with the name.” She continues to compare Shand to Han Solo, stating that they’re both survivors who only began a life of crime to fulfill their own personal causes. Shand’s allegiance remains to be seen, however, with Wen adding, “Thinking that she’s a mercenary, it can go either way.”
