Jude Law Awakens to Challenge John Malkovich's Papacy in Latest 'The New Pope' Trailer
Premiering January 2020.
HBO has blessed audiences with a new trailer for Paolo Sorrentino’s The New Pope, Canal+ and Sky Atlantic’s forthcoming papacy-centered series starring Jude Law and John Malkovich.
The latest visual sees Malkovich’s titular “New Pope” John Paul III explaining the swagger that comes with the title, suggesting, “Everyone in the world should know who the pope is. It’s not vanity; it’s necessity.” As teasers of the show’s beautiful and extravagant cinematography plays under John Paul III’s confession of being “irresponsible, indolent, [and] pompous,” Law’s Pope Pius XIII — the original holder of the religious title with a similar narcissistic outlook — wakes up from his coma with a proud smirk, ready to challenge John Paul III’s claim to the papacy.
The New Pope acts as the second season to The Young Pope, with the predecessor focusing on Pius XIII’s less-than-holy take as the first American pope.
