Tommy Newport's 'Tommy Gun' EP Is a Psychedelic Funk Rollercoaster
The 19-year-old upstart isn’t holding back.
Singer-meets-guitarist-meet-producer Tommy Newport has dropped his latest Tommy Gun EP, honing in on the release by simultaneously sharing a music video for standout single, “Holy Water.” At just 19 years of age, it’s hard to deny Newport’s growing impact within the current rock music landscape. Infusing his latest project with a sense of funky twang, much of the young artist’s sound relishes in psychedelic funk sensibilities that push forth his eclectic vision.
Throughout Tommy Gun, Newport has managed to shell out his redefining rockstar vision, crafting every track himself alongside co-production from 4th Pyramid. Despite his youthfulness, his sound remains vigorously mature—Newport isn’t imbuing mundane lyricism about youthful anxieties, but articulates his poetics in a way that exemplifies his metaphorical prowess. On top of the new EP, Tommy has also shared an Adrian Bellaire-directed visual for “Holy Water,” further showcasing the artist’s love for retro-tinged aesthetics, whereby various ‘70s Hollywood backdrops and pop art-heavy colors are showcased throughout.
