Here's What Four of Nike's Biggest NBA Stars Will Be Wearing During Opening Week
New kicks for Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Paul George, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
NBA tip-off is right around the corner and with a new season comes plenty of fresh footwear, so four takes on Nike signature silhouettes are set to make an on-court debut: Kyrie Irving‘s Kyrie 5 “Pineapple House,” Kevin Durant‘s KD 12 “YouTube,” Paul George‘s PG 3 “NASA,” and Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s Zoom Freak 1 “All Bros 2.”
Irving’s whimsical new Kyrie 5 is the latest in his line of SpongeBob SquarePants collaborations, but looks to a famous setting from the show instead of a character — namely, SpongeBob’s pineapple house. The upper’s print resembles pineapple skin, while the green lace shroud is a play on its leaf/stem. A blue Swoosh, trim, and accents acknowledge the nautical-inspired portal windows that the affable sponge is known to peer out of.
Durant’s KD 12 nods to YouTube with its red/white colorway and special detailing. The online video platform’s symbols appear in an all-over print that’s present on the heel and throat, while YouTube’s signature logo is altered to read “Kevin Durant” on the tongue. For clever finishing touches, a “Skip Ad” — everyone’s favorite button — symbol appears on the heel tab, while a search bar is printed on the insole.
George’s collaborations with NASA are well-known at this point, but his PG3 interprets the space-ready ethos in a new fashion. This is achieved thanks to a blue base, mismatching orange and red forefoot wings, and plenty of silver detailing. NASA logos are also stamped on the heel and sockliner.
Last but certainly not least, reigning MVP Antetokounmpo’s Zoom Freak 1 “All Bros 2” is an updated take on the launch colorway that made its debut during last year’s NBA Playoffs. A mix of red hues, both fluorescent and deep, offer striking contrast, with specked detailing on the signature backwards Swoosh completing the look.
All four shoes will release via Nike SNKRS, and see a staggered rollout. The PG 3 “NASA” releases on October 23, and will be followed by the Kyrie 5 “Pineapple House” a day later on October 24. The KD 12 “YouTube” will press play on October 26, and the Zoom Freak 1 “All Bros 2” will wrap up the tip off week collection on October 27.
