Nardwuar Interviews Tyler, the Creator for Third Time
“Doot doola doot doot.”
Nardwuar the Human Serviette recently met up with Tyler, the Creator, discussing everything from his favorite tunes to awkwardly intimate facts about the rapper that no one else except Nardwuar would be able to dig up. This marks the third interview with Tyler and was conducted at the back of NEPTOON Records, a small record store in Nardwuar’s hometown Vancouver, B.C.
“So, here we go, at NEPTOON Records… Left, around the corner, and into the actual record room, the backstage, of NEPTOON Records,” says Nardwuar as he walks Tyler through the cramped vinyl-stacked hallways of the place. Kicking off the interview, Nardwuar gifts Tyler with a vintage action figure of Will Smith from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “in honor of Jaden.” He then brings out a BAD BASCOMB vinyl, which the rapper sampled a drum break off of in his song “WHAT’S GOOD.” Weaving through other musical inspirations like Stevie Wonder‘s In Square Circle, Twilight’s Still Loving You and The Style Council’s Shout To The Top, the two cover a wide range of topics as Nardwuar unveils wig sets and talk shop about Tyler’s affinity for special novelties and his favorite food joints.
When Nardwuar brings up Rally’s Restaurant, the rapper gets amped up about the $2.49 USD barbecue bacon cheeseburger that the place used to serve, pleading them to bring it back: “So anybody at Rally’s, if you can bring that sh*t back, you have a f**king loyal customer. Stop f**king playing with me!” In classic Nardwuar style, the video ends with the Human Serviette in an awkward freeze as Tyler goofs around.
