Daniel Arsham is set to release a new art object under his ‘Fictional Archaeology’ series this week. The latest collectible is an eroded ‘BRONZE BASKETBALL’ sculpture that is hand finished with a custom torch-scored patina — the bespoke exterior creates a rainbow light refraction in the metal.

“Inspired by the global reach of basketball, this work falls into Arsham’s Fictional Archaeology series in a new process using the antiquity that bronze is associated with. ‘BRONZE BASKETBALL’ is an amalgamation of past, present, and future,” said Arsham Studio in a statement.

The artwork is produced in a limited edition of 99 and each piece arrives inside a bespoke resin-cast Arsham Studio crate. As with any Arsham Studio object, the work comes with art handling gloves and a rainbow-foiled certificate that is signed and numbered by the artist. Get a closer look at the ‘BRONZE BASKETBALL’ edition above and expect an official launch on Daniel Arsham’s website this October 18 at 12 p.m. ET. Each piece will set you back $9,500 USD.

In related stories, Daniel Arsham enlisted a superstar roster of collaborations for The House at Selfridges Corner Shop.

My new Limited Edition BRONZE BASKETBALL will release this Friday in an Edition of 99. If you plan to acquire this work, please read the full text below. Bronze Basketball is a sculpture made of cast bronze which is hand finished with a custom torch-scored patina. Inspired by the global reach of basketball, this work falls into my Fictional Archaeology series in a new process using the antiquity that bronze is associated with. BRONZE BASKETBALL is an amalgamation of past, present, and future. The hand applied torched patina disrupts the material properties of the bronze and brings out a rainbow light refraction in the metal. Produced in a limited edition of 99, BRONZE BASKETBALL comes encased in a custom resin-cast Arsham Studio crate, containing embossed care labels and clear-cast silicone footings to protect the edition during transport. The clear crate, which doubles as a display case, is designed to catch light in contrast to the solidity of the bronze. Each Edition comes complete with a pair of Arsham Studio art handling gloves and a rainbow-foiled certificate of Authenticity signed and numbered by the Artist. In order to purchase the Edition, an email address will be announced at Danielarsham.com/shop on October 18 at 12pm ET. Please send your Paypal email and preferred shipping address to this email. The portal will be open for one hour. Once we receive your details, you will be sent an invoice which you will have 15 minutes to fulfill. The limited Edition will be sold to the first 99 people to successfully submit payment. Additional information: You must have a Paypal account set up to receive an invoice. You can pay on Paypal with a credit card, debit card, or bank account number. When we send you a Paypal invoice, you will see it on your Paypal homepage on the left side that says “Needs Attention : Invoices to Pay” Any questions prior to the sale should be directed to info@danielarsham.com
