Blood Orange & Third Coast Percussion Share Classical Album 'Fields'
Consisting of 13 lush compositions.

Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) and Chicago ensemble Third Coast Percussion have dropped Fields, a collaborative project comprised of classical music compositions written by Hynes and performed by the four-man group. Consisting of 13 lush compositions, the album’s first 11 tracks form a suite entitled “For All Its Fury” and is rounded up by “Perfectly Voiceless” and “There Was Nothing,” two album closers clocking in at 11 minutes and 13 minutes respectively.
“This was the first time I’ve written music that I’ve never played, and I love that,” Hynes said in a press release. “It’s something I’ve always been striving to get to. Seeing what Third Coast Percussion had done with these pieces was magical.”
Third Coast Percussion reflected Hynes’ cheerfulness with the project, adding, “We’ve always felt that the future of classical music depends on deepening the collaborative process and removing the strict barriers between composers and performers. Dev gave us a beautiful field to play in, and we think the music that resulted couldn’t have been created any other way.”
