Aimé Leon Dore Teases New Balance 990 Collaborations (UPDATE)
A look at the New York-based brand’s latest work with New Balance, consisting of two footwear silhouettes and matching apparel.
UPDATE (November 4, 2019): Aimé Leon Dore has provided another look at its New Balance 990 series collaboration, unveiling a new colorway of the New Balance 990v5 that combines a dark navy/forest green upper with an eggshell white midsole and laces. This joins the brand’s previously-previewed New Balance 990v2. Collaborative apparel has also been premiered, namely a forrest green fleece snap-up jacket and a co-branded scarf. A release date for the collection has yet to be announced, so stay tuned for further updates as they’re available.
ORIGINAL STORY (October 28, 2019): Following closely behind a capsule collection with Woolrich, New York-based Aimé Leon Dore has joined forces with New Balance for a brand-new collaboration. This marks the second collaborative effort and third overall project between the two — they teamed up for a two special New Balance 997s accompanied by an apparel collection this April, then followed that up with an exclusive early launch of the New Balance 850.
Only a single lookbook image of the new co-crafted silhouette has been revealed so far, and in ALD’s signature playful-yet-refined style, it shows a woman in a trench coat, sweater, hoodie, beanie and sweatpants with the shoes on her feet, carrying an umbrella and a sack of groceries for effect.
The shoes themselves present a color scheme that’s equal parts stately and sporty. A soft light grey is used on the base layer, then overlaid with forest green on the quarter, oceanic blue on the forefoot, tongue and heel, and a dark grey on the toe cap/heel. There are also hits of yellow on the laces and toebox, while a two-tone white midsole finalizes the look.
Neither a release date nor a retail price for this new collaboration has been announced, but you can expect it to hit ALD’s webstore and its Mulberry Street location in NYC during the coming weeks.
