Nike Celebrates Tiger Woods's 80th PGA Tour Win With New Ad
“He’s done… it again.”
After welcoming the golfing legend back into the fold, Nike released some clever imagery honoring Tiger Woods and his victory at the recent PGA Tour Championship. Though Woods has racked up dozens of victories, awards and recognition over a career that began over twenty years ago, he hasn’t won a PGA event since 2013. Furthermore, health issues lead to spinal fusion surgery in 2017, when Woods was at his lowest. He remembers thinking, “‘Am I going to be able to sit, stand, walk, lay down without feeling the pain that I was in?’ … ‘This is how the rest of my life is going to be?’ It’s going to be a tough rest of my life. And so … I was beyond playing.”
However, this success proves that Woods isn’t done yet, and Nike’s campaign capitalizes on that resilience. Two-part images split a photo of Woods, first reading “He’s done…” then “it again.” The sportswear giant has unwaveringly sponsored the golfer throughout his career, even through scandal. These ads are indicative of the brand’s continuing support for Woods and the golfer’s unwillingness to acquiesce to the constraints of his health and age.
Meanwhile, Nike Golf aimed to capture more youthful players with a capsule designed in collaboration with Malbon Golf.
I think throughout this year some of @TigerWoods‘ issues were between his ears, as he had to remember how to win again. Tiger has been close, almost there. You knew he was going to win soon, and this week he did it.
