Suge Knight Allegedly Tried to Have Eminem Killed Back in 2001
Eminem’s former bodyguard opens up the incident at the 2001 Source Awards.
In a new interview with the “Murder Master Music Show,” Eminem’s old bodyguard former bodyguard,Byron “Big Naz” Williams, claims the Detroit rapper was nearly killed at the 2001 Source Awards by associates of his rival, Suge Knight. According to Williams, The Source Awards didn’t allow bodyguards to sit next to their artists, which left Eminem seated and surrounded by Knight’s associates.
“I noticed that, in the middle of the aisle, he’s beefing with all these guys in red shirts,” Williams recalls. “I noticed his face changing, and he’s turning like, tomato-red. And there’s a sea of red guys around him. I had to bust through the middle and snatch him up.”
The men were pressed by Williams with the help of Dr. Dre’s bodyguards, who would eventually admit they were from Knight’s Death Row Records and had been sent to “strong-arm” Eminem. Luckily, they were able to get the rapper to safety. During the interview, Williams also suggested that The Source was plotting.
“Bodyguards couldn’t sit with the artists,” Williams said. “I think that was by design ’cause I think they really wanted the artists to be able to network with each other, but it also gives people who got beef with other artists to get at them.”
