Dr. Dre Is Using the 'Compton' Royalties to Build a Performance Arts Center

Given Beats’ $3 billion USD acquisition by Apple and a personal net worth estimated to be around $700 million USD, Dr. Dre isn’t exactly hurting for cash. That’s why the producer/rapper/entrepreneur won’t be pocketing any of the royalties from his upcoming LP Compton. Instead, Dre will be using the funds for a worthy cause. The legendary hip-hop icon called into Zane Lowe’s Los Angeles-based show on Apple Music’s Beats Radio 1 this morning to talk Compton, revealing that he’ll be using all of his royalties from the highly anticipated album to help build a performance arts center in Compton. Dre also shed light on the making of the project, revealing that virtually all of the lyrics on the LP were penned by him, Justus and King Mez.
Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre drops this Friday, August 7 and will be available for streaming exclusively on iTunes ahead of the release beginning tonight at 6 p.m. PDT.
