One of the key characteristics of the area is the traditional agriculture, with a common phrase in the area being “architecture with no architects.” This meant that the exterior of the home had to fit into the local environment of Shanyinwu village.

The village has undergone a renovation of sorts, with most spaces having been rebuilt in the last 10 years, most of which adhere to the “new rural” style that the LEI house also sticks to. The layout of the home follows that of village farmhouses, although the interior is quite the step-up from what farmhouses typically look like.
