YBN Cordae Responds to J. Cole's "1985" With "Old N*ggas"
“Imma still wear all my Gucci flip flops.”
Momentum continues to grow for YBN Cordae. The YBN member, which is home to fellow up-and-comers YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay, gives his response to J. Cole’s KOD track “1985.” The new track is titled “Old N*ggas” and finds Cordae giving his take on the generational divide between old school and new school rappers.
In the video, Cordae can be seen arguing in a barbershop, as he spits over the “1985” instrumental. “I understand both sides, let me break it in half,” he raps. The record isn’t a diss, but more like constructive criticism, as Cordae breaks down why his generation isn’t too focused on what the previous generation think about the music they make. He also referenced Kanye West and how his idols have failed him. He closes out the song in style: “Imma still wear all my Gucci flip flops/and the fuckin’ diamond chain with the big rocks/and I’ll be the greatest ever n*gga just watch/Cardi B got rich from Love and Hip-Hop.”
Last week, Cordae turned heads with his version of Eminem‘s iconic “My Name Is.”
