Johnny Depp Stars in Dior's Sauvage Perfume Launch Film
‘Legend of the Magic Hour’ draws inspiration from traditional Navajo folklore.
Dior taps Johnny Depp for Legend of the Magic Hour, an eight-minute-long short film kicking off the launch of its new Sauvage perfume.
Shot on-site in the California desert, Legend of the Magic Hour reworks the Navajo legend of the coyote into a dramatic, visceral experience. Considered both the creator of the Milky Way and an all-powerful trickster figure, the coyote and the storied magic hour informs the film. According to ancient legends, when the sky was tinged blue by the setting sun, the coyote spirit returned to Earth to toy with mankind. The Legend of the Magic Hour interprets this concept with a near-wordless story of supernatural power, overlaid with Depp’s poetic narration.
