Chanel's Resort 2019 Show Featured a Life-Size Ocean Liner
Straight out of the ‘Titanic.’

While the Spring/Summer 2019 fashion week circuit officially starts next month, some designers are currently busy showcasing their Resort 2019 designs. Resort collections (which also go by Cruise, Holiday, Pre-Fall or Travel) are mid or pre-season lines that serve as an additional segment to the traditional runway calendar offerings. Though Resort collections may seem confusing or unnecessary, they actually sit on the retail market longer than any other season, thus earning more profit over a longer period of time.
French luxury mega-brand Chanel is notorious for its larger-than-life runway presentations, and last night’s spectacle proved no different. Taking over Paris’s Grand Palais, Karl Lagerfeld transformed the space into a massive marina complete with a life-size ocean liner named after Coco Chanel’s villa in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, “La Pausa.” Keeping with the show’s nautical theme, the collection, comprised of over 90 looks, was a vast assortment of pastel-hued tweeds, striped dresses and metallic leathers. Hats proved to be the show’s most prominent accessory, with every look topped with either a straw hat, sun hat or beret.
