Maison Margiela Fall/Winter 2018 Runway Debuts XXL Deconstructed Sneakers
Mega stompers.
Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2018 has been delivering one bold luxury sneaker after the other, with recent hits such as Balenciaga’s new hiking-inspired silhouette and COMME des GARÇONS’ platform Nike Cortez. Another designer label that joined the parade is Maison Margiela, which debuted a mega-sized and deconstructed sneakers in both high-top and low-top versions on its Fall/Winter 2018 runway show.
The new Maison Margiela footwear collection includes the Blue Klein high-top and silver iridescent low-top sneakers, both of which feature a sculptural chunky sole unit, oversized padded tongues, exposed foam cutouts and a velcro strap over lacing system seen on popular models such as the Air Force 1 High. Other design cues include a midsole design that mixes elements of the Air Jordan 6 and 7, a silhouette that takes on the build of the Ewing Athletics sneakers and vintage ’90s adidas EQTs, and for some models, an extra bulky frame with external caging and a burly bumper strap at the vamp.
