A "Music Driven" Prince Documentary With "A Lot of Exclusive Footage" Is in the Works
“There will be a lot of stuff from behind the scenes which fans were not aware about.”

As Screen Daily reports, an ambitious new Prince documentary is in the works. Directed by the pair of Grammy-winning visual artist Mathieu Bitton and writer, producer and journalist Frédéric Bénudis, Prince: Pop Life is billed as a “music-driven” piece filled with “exclusive footage” and unique animated sequences concocted by comic book illustrator and creator, writer and director Joann Sfar. “Joann’s animated sections will be there to express Prince’s creativity and the parts of his life when he disappeared from the public eye,” explains Vincent Maraval of Prince: Pop Life distributor and promoter Wild Bunch. The documentary will unfold as a “road trip” through Los Angeles, New York City and Paris.
When it comes to Prince’s significant personal developments and tougher times, Bénudis and Bitton’s documentary will also explore the legendary musician’s disputes with Warner Bros., his spirituality as a Jehovah’s Witness, his personal and familial ties and more. “There will be a lot of stuff from behind the scenes which fans were not aware about,” says Maraval.
Prince: Pop Life currently doesn’t have a concrete, official release, but expect the film to be available for public screening in the latter half of this year. Stay tuned for more information regarding trailers, promotional materials and more.
