Walter Payton's Beloved 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo Hits the Auction Block
The legendary running back’s prized automobile can now be yours.

First seen in August, Walter Payton’s personal Porsche 930 Turbo is finally set to hit the auction block. Purchased brand new in 1979, the legendary Chicago Bears running back treated the car like his third child; when his health declined in the late ’90s, Payton sold off a Ferrari Testarossa, his 300ZX Nissan and the Lamborghini Countach but held tight to his beloved Porsche. Now in the possession of his son, Jarrett, the car has only been driven once since Payton’s death and maintains less than 10,000 miles. It retains the original turbocharged 3.3-liter flat-six engine, but has been upgraded with a Ruf interior and intercooler, Borla exhaust, Gotti rims and a Nakamichi speaker system.
Take a closer look at the car on Mecum Auctions’ website before it’s sold during the company’s Chicago auction from October 25-27.
Elsewhere, Paul Newman‘s National Champion 1979 Datsun 280ZX recently went up for sale.
