An Official Look at Nike's New Air Max 270 Colorways
Details of the Swoosh’s latest Air Max model.

After months of previews and first looks, Nike has finally unveiled the official images of its latest Air Max 270 model. This entirely new Nike Air silhouette is the first Air Max shoe designed specifically for all-day lifestyle comfort, fusing style elements of ’90s Air Max models with revolutionary Max Air cushioning technology.
The Air Max 270’s main attribute is a newly-engineered Max Air unit — the tallest heel unit to date — that offers greater impact absorption that’s described by product testers as providing a trampoline-like effect. The shoe’s “270” moniker is derived from the 270 degrees of visible air within its Max Air unit. Other key attributes include a form-fitting zoned mesh upper for flex and breathability, as well as a molded dual-density foam layer for smooth transition from heel to forefoot.
“Originally, the idea was to mash up the Air Max 93 and the Air Max 180 and build a new, more refined silhouette incorporating elements of both,” says Dylan Raasch, Senior Creative Director of Nike Air Max. “Somewhere along the way, we got to a point where we essentially abandoned that idea and decided to make something entirely new. That’s when we flipped to what has now become the Nike Air Max 270 with this new, sleek, engineered upper. It’s not a hybrid at all, it’s a new Air Max.”
“The Nike Air Max 270 was innovation led. It was a two-year journey from concept to market,” Raasch said of the design process. “We began with air unit design. We wanted to build the tallest air unit we could. From there, once we knew how big the unit could be, we started to work on the actual shoe design.”
