Acura Confirms the Revival of the Type S Trim

A turbocharged V6 engine is on the way, too.

After a prolonged period off the market, Acura has reported that the Type S grade will be returning to its vehicles.

The last conception of the trim had its heyday in 2008 on the TL. It featured a treasure trove of upgrades and detailing — one being the inclusion of a 3.5-liter V-6. It eventually became a model that was endorsed and loved by car enthusiasts.

Though the return may seem imminent, the Honda subsidiary has remained tight-lipped about which car in its fleet will receive the Type S nameplate; however Car and Driver was able to uncover a recent trademark filed for the name “TLX Type S.” In tandem with the second-coming, drivers can expect the development of the turbocharged V6 engine with all-wheel drive, which will be available in select products.

Look for the Type S to hit the market around 2020. Until then, check out a special 70th Anniversary edition Land Rover powered with a V8.
