Virgil Abloh & Eliud Kipchoge Discuss the Ethos Behind Sport and Design
Brainstorming in Berlin.
On the back of his Berlin Marathon victory, Eliud Kipchoge sat down with Virgil Abloh to discuss the intersections between “stamina and innovation.” The shoes in which Kipchoge won the race, the Nike Zoom Vaporflys, were reimagined by the Off-White™ designer for his “THE TEN” series of deconstructed Nike classics.
Upon hearing of Kipchoge’s victory, Abloh flew in from Paris to meet the inspirational Kenyan for a 032c-hosted event where he learned the secrets behind his running prowess. The interview touches on the synergy of running and streetwear, something Abloh dubs as an “open-source” phenomenon – stressing how, today, one only needs the internet and a screen-printer to become a designer, while a runner only needs a pair of shoes and the will to push beyond what is considered impossible by many.
Be sure to read the full interview on 032c and also check out the custom Off-White™ x Nike ZoomFlys that Abloh gifted to Kipchoge after the race.
