Amazon Is Working on Alexa-Powered Smartglasses
Alongside a new home security device.
Amazon is developing smart glasses powered by the Alexa voice assistant, according to a report in the Financial Times. Amazon’s first wearable would tether wirelessly to a smartphone and look like a regular pair of glasses, except it won’t have a camera or screen on it like Google Glass.
A bone-conduction audio system would allow users to hear spoken commands from Amazon’s virtual assistant, rendering headphones and conventional speakers useless. Besides the smart glasses, FT says Amazon is also working on a new home security device — an internet-connected smart camera separate from the brand’s Echo products. It’s speculated one or both of these products could be out by the end of the year.
