'One Piece' Is Getting a Live-Action TV Adaptation
Helmed by the producer of ‘Prison Break.’

Renowned Japanese manga and anime One Piece is getting a live-action adaptation for television. Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Hiroyuki Nakano announced the news stating One Piece is being adapted into an overseas drama. The producer behind the Cowboy Bebop adaptation will helm the project whose previous producing work included the Fox TV series Prison Break.
One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda was quoted by Oricon as saying he “absolutely didn’t want to betray” fans who’ve supported the long-running series for the past twenty years. “That was the condition from me,” Oda added. According to Nakano, One Piece will be an overseas project because it will have a bigger budget and better quality than if it was developed in Japan, a factor Oda took into consideration.
