Walter van Beirendonck Was as Audacious as Ever for 2018 Spring/Summer
The legendary member of the Atwerp Six unveils his latest looks.
Long an underrated legend (especially in comparison to Antwerp Six counterparts like Ann Demeulemeester and Dries van Noten), Walter van Beirendonck is showing no signs of letting up, following up his recent collaboration with COMME des GARÇONS by taking to Paris Fashion Week Men’s to unveil his 2018 spring/summer looks. As whimsical and out-there as ever (this is the man who dressed the Edge up as a cowboy and created the iconic “Bono Man” look for U2’s infamous PopMart Tour, after all), van Beirendonck’s latest show started things off relatively tame — save for some colorful wigs — before quickly segueing into familiar territory. The results are packed full of exaggerated silhouettes and shapes as polka-dotted socks and patterned tights join the likes of trim suiting, a military-inspired jumpsuit and graphic tees. The suiting itself even runs the gamut from trim and stylish to wild and outlandish, incorporating distinct collage-like pop-art styling.
