Dr. Dre Discusses the Initial Failures of 'The Chronic' in New 'The Defiant Ones' Trailer
Eminem and Snoop Dogg also make appearances.
HBO has released the full-length trailer for its upcoming documentary The Defiant Ones, which takes a deeper look at the lives of legendary music producers Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. In the trailer, both producers talk about how they got started in the music industry and the events that led to Interscope Records and Death Row Records coming together.
“I didn’t want to see a studio. I was done,” said Iovine in the trailer. “I gotta find great producers, and I produced them.”
Dr. Dre also takes a look back on what led him to where he is now, explaining the process of how he began marketing his first album, The Chronic. “This was that do or die album. I put my body into this record,” says Dre. “I’m playing it for everybody and for some reason, everybody is turning it down.”
The four-part documentary also features conversations with Eminem and Snoop Dogg, as well as segments exploring the growth of hip-hop into the mainstream and the early beginning of the Beats By Dre brand.
