A former leading Apple employee has shed a light on the surprising history of the now iconic iPhone. Speaking at an event, Scott Forstall, who led Apple’s iOS software division while the late Steve Jobs was in charge, said that Jobs had been inspired to create the brand’s first touchscreen prototype, which would later become the iPhone, because of an unnamed acquaintance at Microsoft. “It began because Steve hated this guy at Microsoft,” Forstall said. “Any time Steve had any interaction with the guy, he’d come back pissed off.” Jobs’s reaction to the Microsoft employee, who is believed to be the husband of a friend of Jobs’s wife, eventually motivated him to go one better. “He just shoved it in Steve’s face — the way they were going to rule the world with their new tablets with their pens. He came in on Monday with a set of expletives and then was like ‘let’s show them how it’s really done.’”

Since then, the iPhone has taken over the world and a new leak has shown what the eighth installment probably looks like.
