McGregor's Coach Says Conor Is Training for Mayweather and the Fight Will Happen This Year

Conor McGregor‘s coach, John Kavanagh, is the latest insider to make headlines for speaking on the MMA fighter’s possible match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. We’ve heard everyone from Dana White to 50 Cent weigh in on the trash talk between the UFC stud and boxing legend, but Kavanagh is the closest source to one of the fighters yet.
In an interview with Fox Sports, the MMA trainer revealed that although the fight has yet to be finalized McGregor has been training as if Mayweather is his next opponent, for a fight that’ll happen later this year. Here’s an excerpt from his interview:
In my mind, it’s on. That’s the mentality we’re in. Like you said, there’s a lot of fingers in the pie on this one. There’s different promotions, different organizations, different commissions that are involved, but as far as I’m concerned, I really believe it’s going to happen this year. That’s the mindset I have. Let the people in the suits worry about the paperwork. We’re training for it.
Kavanagh goes on to talk coyly about how their training, concluding with the news that the two fighters are considering a fighting weight of 147 pounds. While this is just the latest rumor for a hypothetical fight, McGregor training for Mayweather is the best news for those wanting to see this monumental fight happen in weeks.
