Dana White Basically Says Mayweather vs. McGregor Isn't Happening
Looks like history and wallets will have to wait.
By now, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably gotten wind that retired boxer Floyd Mayweather and MMA fighter Conor McGregor have been exchanging words about a potential history making superfight for months. What started off as McGregor sounding off on Floyd and saying “get my f*cking money!” quickly escalated into a situation that had Manny Pacquiao and 50 Cent chiming in and finally Floyd saying, “most likely the fight between me and Conor McGregor will happen” less than 24 hours ago. But in the midst of this was UFC President Dana White, who offered up $50 million USD, $25 million USD to each fighter, to make it happen.
Now it seems like the superfight of the century (MayPac is a figment of the past) has been axed by White himself. “Here’s what I think the chances are, about the same as me being the backup quarterback for Brady on Sunday,” said White following UFC Fight Night Denver on January 28. It seems White’s change of heart stems from the fact that Floyd’s initial $15 million USD offer was fake so he made the $50 million USD offer to call out Money. “Yeah, because he was full of shit and he said he had made an offer, which wasn’t true, so I made a real offer, that was the real offer.”
In addition to all this, McGregor’s relationship with UFC may have soured after he dropped the “f bomb” on them and said he’d pursue a fight in the boxing ring with or without its support. White’s response to that was, “it’ll be an epic fall.” Watch the video above to see his comments.
We never know with boxing but for now, it seems that White has definitely axed Mayweather vs. McGregor.
